Taking a Look Back - Today is New Day

Today while on Facebook I happened upon the page that lets you look at all of your activity on Facebook from days and years past. So I started going down and reading things I had posted. In a way, it was like reading a "random journal" of random things I had experienced throughout the last few years. As I read, I reminisced, I remembered, and I even teared up at some things. Our time spent in Upstate New York was forefront in my mind and all the memories and new experiences brought about by those 10 months was a big part of my life. Am I still experiencing new things the way I did then? And get excited about them as I did then? I need to. I need to experience my life now the way I did when everything was new and exciting. So I am setting a goal to continue posting on this blog because posting on this blog reminds me of new and fun things that make me smile, make me laugh and put me in a good mood. Today, looking back put me in a good mood. Sometimes looking back at things reminds us that life really isn't so dull and monotonous. Life is good. Like Chicken Little says: Today is a New Day. So I am going to start experiencing each day as a new day with new experiences to be excited about. So read your journal, read your activity on Facebook, or look back at old blog posts. But - a word of caution - don't get stuck looking back - don't get stuck thinking of good times and great times that aren't happening anymore. Just take a quick look back so you can go forward in your day with newness and a fresh perspective that life isn't always so predictable and to know that even on predictable days - life is oh so good. I did it and it helped. Hope you have a Good Mood Day!

Say Something to Put me in a Good Mood....

The other day I had a friend email me and say she was having a terrible day and she wanted me to say something to cheer her up. Talk about pressure. So I thought of a few things that I thought would at least put a smile on her face - like the time I didn't auto-correct check my text to a friend and mistakingly said that my husband was home with a woman named "Lois" instead of saying he was home with the "kids" - that was so funny. So I sent her a few funny things and hoped to brighten her day. Well yesterday my brother sent me a blog post that I wish I could have sent her on her terrible day. Because it made me laugh SO hard

I know it came out in like 2011 - but it is still just as funny to this day. Then if you read the next one HERE you will get double the pleasure.

I was laughing so hard after reading both of these posts! So hard!! Then this same brother who must share my sense of humor sent me this Gem of an Item on Amazon:

The item in itself is pretty funny but what you need to do is start reading the customer reviews because those are what make me want to buy this product so badly for my terrible, no good days.  So cheer up - life is funny even on terrible days. Good mood to you!!

Race Shirt

Almost 2 years ago I ran a half marathon in New York City. It was an incredible experience. I enjoyed training for it and the actual race itself was just awesome. So now here I sit two years later as far away from doing a race like that as I ever thought I would or could be.  I haven't run more than two miles in like a year and a half, however I got an awesome "13.1" race shirt that I wear all the time and it reminds me of a time when I ran and loved running and gives me hope that maybe someday I will work up to that again. So today, wearing that shirt helped put me in a good mood because A. it brought back some sweet memories and B. it reminded me that I did something awesome not so long ago. So go find a race shirt or any type of shirt that attributes something cool and put it on for an instant good mood boost. (if needed, you can go purchase a shirt at a thrift shop -however I don't know if the same "I did something great" feelings will come along with it - but you might get a few strangers approval of your made up accomplishment when they read your shirt.) So go have a good mood day!

Chalkboard Refrigerator, what?

A favorite show in our house is Good Luck Charlie on the Disney Channel. We love this show. While watching an episode the other day I noticed their refrigerator had a chalkboard front and I just knew that this is what I wanted to do. So of course I went to Pinterest and found a few ideas on how to do it and went out, bought a quart of chalkboard paint and a little brush ($12 Total) and went to town on my boring, white fridge. And now I LOVE it!!!! Every time I look at it, it puts me in a good mood!! I am excited to put different quotes on it for different times of year and the kids love writing on it too. Couple of things I learned:
1. You don't need magnetic primer or anything - just paint it on and the magneticity still works, I did do like 4 coats.
2. After you condition the surface by rubbing it down with the side of a piece of chalk or just anytime it is dusty/dirty looking the only way to get it nice black is by using COKE on a rag. No joke. So awesome!!!

I loved this project and love how it looks! So go do a little cheap project to lift your mood. I promise it will!!!

Men Working OUT

I was driving along the other day on just another pot hole filled road in my city. Winter is just the worst on our roads. So anyway, I was driving along like I was in a life size Mario Kart game, dodging the potholes, when I saw this sign and just started laughing. It made my day. I know it is probably illegal and shouldn't be done and everything like that but I love it for so many reasons. One of them being that it took me back to all my prank filled days as a care-free youth when we would do things like "Chinese fire-drills" around our car at stop lights. Or we would steal cones and place them on the front yard of a boy we liked, or of course "TPing", or...well I better stop with the confessions there. So anyway, another reason I like it is because the "OUT" is just written on paper and taped on there. So it's naughty, but not TOO naughty you know? Cracked me up and made me laugh. The third reason I liked it is because the image of me driving by the "MEN WORKING" and having them really be working OUT. That image made me laugh too, with their dumbbells and kettle balls getting their sweat on instead of filling in our potholes. Love it!  So look for the "funny" in your day and neighborhood to put you in a good mood.

A Yellow Scarf

I do not sing well, however, I LOVE to sing! I have not always been this way but my sister invited me to be the member of this awesome all women choir called "We Also Sing". Which means, that after all the stuff we do as women, mothers, wives etc.. "we also sing". The conductor of this choir is the amazing Merillee Webb and she is just awesome. I was in the choir a few years ago and am in it again with a performance in the historic Tabernacle on Temple Square this week.  For this concert we are wearing mono colored scarves and I bought myself a yellow one. Yellow is my favorite color. I love how a color can help my good mood abilities. And since this winter has been so cold and inversionish here in Utah, with a little yellow I can try to bring on the sun and warmth a little. So I have been wearing this scarf with everything I possibly can - even my pajamas taking the kids to school some mornings and it has done wonders for my mood. So get your bright scarf out and wear it - as much as possible until these cold days turn into spring and the scarf will finally be in style! And oh, if you have nothing else to do on Friday night and are in downtown Salt Lake City around 8pm - come see an awesome choir sing their hearts out. We Also Sing!

Accomplishing A Goal

Wow - it has been a while...okay 1.5 years might be more than a while but here I am trying to start up on the good mood blogging once again. Today on this February day in 2013 I would like to say that I accomplished a goal. It was a small, really meaningless goal - but a goal nonetheless.  I set a goal to floss for every day for a week. I know this may  not seem like a big deal, but to me it was hard. In the spirit of honesty, I must confess that I am not a regular floss er  I floss once a week at most. So, I set a goal and started very small - to floss every day for one week and I did it. So today I am in a good mood today because my gums and teeth are healthier and I accomplished a goal. So sometimes, set your goals low, manageable so you can feel good about yourself once in a while. My next goal might be to publish more posts in my blog....just wait and see...
